What's new for 2024?
The 500e is new for the 2024 model year after being pulled from the US market in 2019. Fiat is dropping special versions of the car at regular intervals including one trim called Inspired by Music and another that's been dubbed Inspired by Beauty. The Beauty model is available only in Rose Gold while the Music option comes exclusively in Tuxedo Black. Both are fully loaded with a host of safety features and appealing highlights such as heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and parking sensors
EV motor and performance
The 2024 500e is powered by a 117-horsepower electric motor borrowed from the European version. Front-wheel drive is the only option and acceleration may be disappointing for Decatur drivers but compares with many gas-powered small SUVs. The 500e offers three drive modes-Normal, Range, and Sherpa-each with an increasing effort to preserve driving range. The 500e requires about 7.8 seconds to reach 60 mph which is why it's more suited for city driving than highways. The Fiat 500e requires about 37 hours to fully recharge at 110 volts and 6.2 hours if you pay to have a 220-volt charger installed in your garage.
Interior comfort and cargo space
The new Fiat 500e is about the same size as the previous model but the interior has a more upscale look and it includes more contemporary technology. The 500e can provide seating for up to four in spite of its diminutive size. Front seats are comfortable with a surprising amount of headroom and legroom and the two rear seats have room for adults as long you're making a short trip around a community like Taylorville.
500e models have some stylistic elements that include a body-colored dashboard trim that matches the exterior along with contrasting piping on the seats. Cargo space is a significant limitation coming in at just 7.5 cubic feet which is another reason to consider this car only as a backup for quick trips around a town like Virden.
Technology
Standard tech in the new Fiat 500e includes a 10.25-inch touch screen, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, a six-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, satellite radio, navigation and three USB ports. A 7.0-inch digital gauge display is also standard, providing readouts for speed as well as the state of charge for the battery. Other standard features in the new 500e include push-button start, proximity keyless entry and automatic climate control. Available technology includes a JBL premium audio system with seven speakers.
Safety features
Standard safety features in the new Fiat 500e include forward automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors, pedestrian detection, parking assist, driver attention monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Available safety features include automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert.
